Self-employment is the ultimate American Dream. Many relish the thought of setting their own hours, being their own boss, and
watching the dream of owning their own business become a reality. However, entrepreneurship isn't necessarily for everyone.
The rewards are great, even though the work required to achieve them can be long and hard.
So what does it take to get a business up and running? It takes a person with drive and initiative, someone with the next "big idea"
and the ability to act on it. When starting your own business, it's up to you to get the ball rolling on projects, meet the deadlines
you set for yourself, and follow through on the minor details. It's a powerful feeling to know that you're in charge and reliable
enough to get the job done.
The B.O.S.S. program will mirror that of the real world. In the real world, as you become entrepreneurial,
work ethic and time commitment are two critical skills. The B.O.S.S. program, in mirroring the real world, places a heavy
emphasis on your commitment; timeliness, follow through on projects and commitment to be the best you can be.
Among the activities that you will undertake as part of this program will include;
keeping journals,
learning entrepreneurial and business vocabulary,
working in teams and
writing a business plan.
The project will start with 54 hours of instruction covering entrepreneurial basics and business plan writing. At the conclusion
of the classroom instruction, students will have completed a business plan on the topic of their choice. After all the business
plans are complete, the students will participate in local and regional contests.
This program is an excellent opportunity to determine if entrepreneurship might be a career option for YOU!
